Frequently Asked Questions
  • What can I expect in the first telephone session?

    • If you are considering counselling then you have made the first and most important step.

    • I offer an initial free telephone consultation, usually lasting about 15 minutes, which is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, find out what has brought you to counselling and whether working together may be able to help you. There are no expectations that you should book further sessions unless you wish to do so.

  • How long are sessions and how many do I need to have?

    • Counselling sessions are 1 hour.

    • There is no stipulation as the number or frequency of these sessions.

    • Initially it can be helpful to have these sessions weekly.

    • If our sessions are ongoing we will review progress regularly, usually every 6 sessions.

  • How do I book a session?

  • What are the differences between online video and in-person counselling?

    • There is no difference in the way I conduct video or in-person counselling sessions.

    • In my opinion video will never be as quite as good as in-person but it is very close. I also believe that the convenience of not having to travel and the time saved often outweighs this small difference. It can be helpful if we have met once in person before undertaking video sessions.

  • How do I pay?

    • For in-person sessions fees are due immediately following a session. This can be cash or cheque. You can also pay me with a credit/debit card online or by bank transfer (details will be provided)

    • For video sessions payment via bank transfer or online before is required. Details will be provided.

  • What if I need to change or miss a session?

    • I kindly ask that you give me 48 hours' notice to change or cancel an appointment.

  • Can I call you out of hours?

    • I do not offer an out of hours or crisis service.

    • If you need  immediate support, please make an appointment to see your GP, go to your local walk-in centre or attend A&E.  You can find information on a service near to you here

    • Alternatively you may wish to contact The Samaritans: Freephone 116 123 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week)

  • Tell me more about the locations you work from?

    • In Faversham I work from a dedicated therapy area in my home. I appreciate this may worry some clients and I understand this concern. The therapy area is separate from the main house and conversations cannot be overheard. There is parking directly outside my home and I am about a mile from Faversham railway station.
